Two years ago, Stephin Merritt, founder and mastermind of The Magnetic Fields, celebrated his 50th birthday. To mark the occasion, the singer and multi-instrumentalist has now reviewed his life once again, with one song for each year in chronological order.

"50 Song Memoir" is the name of the new work by The Magnetic Fields, which comprises 50 songs and is now available as a set on a total of five CDs or LPs. Merritt wrote all the songs himself. He also recorded more than 100 different instruments for the album himself.

He also produced "50 Song Memoir" - with the support of pianist and producer Thomas Bartlett alias Doveman (Sufjan Stevens, Sam Amidon, Glen Hansard, Julia Stone) and Charles Newman (Soko, The Davenports).
