John Wright Trio & Quartet – Four Classic Albums (CD)
For this new release from AVID Jazz we have re-visited an approach we were making a few years back when we were focussed on presenting a number of lesser known names in the jazz world of the 1950s and 60s. We are proud to have highlighted such diverse talents as pianists Ahmad Jamal, Elmo Hope, Herbie Nichols, Randy Weston and Billy Taylor. Relatively unknown female jazz singers like Beverly Kenney, Dorothy Donegan, Lurlean Hunter, Ethel Ennis, Mavis Rivers and Etta Jones. Guitarists like Tiny Grimes, Mundell Lowe and vibes-men like Johnny Lytle, Lem Winchester and Dave Pike to flautists like Sam Most.
Prekė detaliau
John Wright, a primarily Chicago based musician, fits pretty well into this category having only made five albums all for Prestige in the early 1960s. All recorded at the famed Rudy Van Gelder Studios in New Jersey. Three featured here are with his Trio and one with the Quartet featuring Eddie 'Cat Eye' Williams on tenor sax. All are lovely examples of his wonderful piano playing and compositional skills.
As with all AVID releases, we hope you enjoy them and check out our extensive catalogue for more great music across jazz, r&b, blues, country and many other musical genres.
