With their No. 1 debut album "Ten" (1991), the Seattle-based band Pearl Jam created an immovable monument to the city's burgeoning grunge scene, from which Nirvana and Soundgarden also originated, right at the start of their career. With subtle nods to Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, the band manifested an unforgettable sound that found expression in powerhouses such as "Even Flow", "Alive", "Black" and "Jeremy". "Ten" sold more than 12 million copies in the USA alone and remains the band's most successful album to date, led by charismatic singer Eddie Vedder. To date, Pearl Jam have released eight studio albums, two samplers, three "normal" live albums and a total of 72 (!) bootlegs of their tours from 2000 and 2003, making Pearl Jam the first band to release complete tours on CD. Eddie Vedder's latest prank is the soundtrack to the Sean Penn film "Into The Wild", which was based on the book by Jon Krakauer.
